This is the industry's first mainstream media architecture for the creation and playback of rich multimedia content for both CDMA 2000 and GSM wireless networks. This version expands its support for mobile multimedia standards to include both the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and the 3rd Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2). QuickTime 6.5 enables users to share high-quality video, audio, and text across the two predominant wireless networking technologies worldwide. Version 6.5.2 is an important release which includes a security update and bug fixes. In addition this release includes enhancements in the Apple Lossless Encoder and AAC codecs, as well as improved support for iTunes and other QuickTime-based applications. - AMC Support. QuickTime 6.5 also includes authoring and playback support for AMC, a popular mobile multimedia format used by KDDI subscribers in Japan. AMC includes MPEG-4 video, QCELP audio, and STML text.
- Unicode Text. Content creators can now take advantage of QuickTime 6.5's cross-platform Unicode text support, with improved authoring and playback of text tracks on the Mac OS X, Windows 2000, and Windows XP operating systems.
- Enhanced DV Playback. QuickTime 6.5 provides the option to deinterlace fields during DV playback for a more smooth video image, particularly when text is part of that image.
- Apple Lossless Encoder. With QuickTime 6.5.1 and later, you can create and play back Apple Lossless audio. This new lossless audio codec retains the full quality of uncompressed CD audio while requiring only about half the storage space. - MPEG-4 File Format (.mp4). Since the QuickTime file format is at the foundation of MPEG-4, QuickTime 6 supports .mp4 files as first-class citizens. So with QuickTime 6, you can author professional-quality, ISO-compliant MPEG-4 audio and video files that can be played back not only by QuickTime 6, but also by any other MPEG-4-compliant player.
